South Dakota Outstanding Physical Science Teacher

The South Dakota Science Teachers Association in conjunction with 3M, announces the 30th presentation of the Outstanding Physical Science Teacher Award in the state of South Dakota. The recipient of this award receives a plaque and a cash award to support the award winner's efforts to teach physical sciences with equipment or perhaps help to attend a conference or workshop. Rose McCarty Emanuel of Lead-Deadwood High School was the recipient of the 2007 South Dakota Outstanding Physical Science Teacher Award. This year the award will go to a teacher at a school in a smaller population area with a teacher in a large population area being recognized next year. You are encouraged to submit nominations for this year regardless of your school's size as they are saved and reviewed for several years.

Teachers in the areas of physical science, physics and chemistry, including grades 8-12, are eligible for the award. An application/nomination form along with a statement of educational philosophy form is enclosed with this letter and I hope you will take the opportunity to nominate a teacher who you feel is qualified for this award. Also included is a recommendation form which can be duplicated to provide the number of copies required. It is important that the information on these forms be as detailed as possible to adequately evaluate each application/nomination. The forms should be returned by Friday, January 4,2008 to:

The recipient for the 2008 Outstanding Physical Science Teacher Award will be announced at the SD Science Teachers Association/SD Council of Teachers of Mathematics meeting in Huron on February 8-9, 2008.
